Bio:

I have been in programme and project management for 18 years, currently delivering ecommerce initiatives for an international retailer.

What is your project management super power?

Memory, never forget a task! Follow up on every task to close it down as it will come back to bite you at implementation.

How can gender diversity be improved in the project management profession?

Naturally women are not great at celebrating their success and highlighting their skills. Typically I have seen the project director and lead roles go to men and I believe this is the reason when there are some very talented women project managers.

As the profession evolves, what skills do you think will be key for future success?

Adaptability! Project management is changing. We are balancing more multiple projects and deadlines. Gone were the days when we had one project to manage like Prince 2 describes. There are projects that need waterfall and some that are more naturally agile. As project managers of the future, we need to understand which methodology is best suited and be able to use it correctly. Take the best bits when and where required. It is not one size fits all.

How do you recover from difficult situations?

Breathe, understand the problem, consult with the team, take action, utilise contacts where needed, recover, rebaseline if required and learn from the situation.

What are your tips and techniques for conflict resolution?

This very much depends on the conflict and people. Try to see both sides, generally people want to projects succeed. Try to comprise, agree next steps and reach a new way of working relationship.

Which 3 words best describe why you enjoy being a project manager?

Planning, delivery and teams.
