I am the Head of Delivery for Rocket Consulting Ltd. I have a background in Programme, Project and Change Management with over 25 years experience. I am a member of the APM and the Chair of the APM Enabling Change Special Interest Group. I have an MSc in Technology Management and am an experienced IT and Change Management Professional with a specialisation in supply chain logistics.
What is your project management super power?
I am really organised and very good at juggling and not dropping balls so I think that is why I make a good Project Manager and would class this is an advantage.
How can gender diversity be improved in the project management profession?
When I came into project management it was a profession that you sought of fell into not a profession. Its now a recognised profession. We are seeing more gender diversity across project management as a whole and the APM are doing a lot of work promoting it and working with companies on apprenticeships. Also the chartered accreditation now makes it more attractive as a career.
As the profession evolves, what skills do you think will be key for future success?
Change Management, embedding the change and make sure those affected embrace it and drive it forwards as part of the project for me is the success of a great project. This is becoming more important that pure task driven Project Management. Also Agile Project Management so working more agile with key deliverables being delivered sooner in the project that may not be perfect but shape the rest of the project is also more in demand.
How do you recover from difficult situations?
I put things into perspective and try and find a solution. I also look at what I can learn from a difficult situation and take time to reflect on how things could have gone better and put in place any processes or improvements to make sure that I can mitigate any further or future issues that may arise. I am also quick to move on as you can not let yourself be defined by errors or mistakes everyone makes them.
What are your tips and techniques for conflict resolution?
Any conflict has two sides and its about removing the emotion and looking at both points of view. For me its about finding a compromise so both parties give a little to come to a resolution.
