What is your project management super power?

Connecting and building solid relationships is my PM Superpower. Every person on the team needs to deliver for the project to succeed and my main role as PM is supporting them to be successful.

How can gender diversity be improved in the project management profession?

Look for those team members who are women and are in roles such as BA or even admin support. Start talking with them about Project Management and mentor them in managing small teams. Invite them to connect to PMI and other groups to learn more about Project Management. Give opportunity for female PM’s to present and share so other women see them in those leadership roles.

As the profession evolves, what skills do you think will be key for future success?

Innovation, collaboration and strategic thinking.

How do you recover from difficult situations?

I have trusted colleagues and mentors who I rely on to debrief and support me in thinking through next steps. I allow some time to reflect but not too much before I take a positive action to move forward. Action cures fear.

What are your tips and techniques for conflict resolution?

Trusted relationships with your team members are key and need to be developed over time. Then when conflict arise, mediating a conversation with both parties in the room about how to move forward has been successful for me. It has been critical to talk to people together to eliminate the “he said – she said.”

Which 3 words best describe why you enjoy being a project manager?

People, collaboration, value.
