Sabahat has over 8 years experience leading projects in engineering, construction and most recently startups. As an engineer turned project manager and executive coach, she is considered equal parts visionary project leader, people developer and big picture thinker.

She relies on strong communication, strengths-based leadership, and forward thinking in order to evaluate multiple perspectives, manage risk and facilitate positive collaboration between parties in order to achieve goals.

What is your project management super power?

Carefully listening to multiple perspectives and reading between the lines to uncover the real needs and motivations of stakeholders.

How can gender diversity be improved in the project management profession?

Tap into strengths. Women have natural talents such as listening, facilitation, organization and communication that can be a big asset in the project management profession. Highlight the importance of these. Project management is more than just keeping a gantt chart alive! Also – having a support system i.e. people who believe in you, can go a long way.

As the profession evolves, what skills do you think will be key for future success?

Conflict management
Cross-cultural communication

How do you recover from difficult situations?

Difficult situations should be expected. So going in with the expectation that things will get tough, primes you to deal with it.
I have been known to deal with difficult situations with persistence, communication and an analytical viewpoint. And finally, drawing on the ’emotional bank accounts’ that I have built in my relationships, and presenting hard facts gets me to resolution when things turn REALLY difficult.

What are your tips and techniques for conflict resolution?

Listen to multiple perspectives, ask questions that get to the heart of the matter, remain collaborative. Present win-win situations. Keep personal integrity and relationship integrity as the biggest priorities.

Which 3 words best describe why you enjoy being a project manager?

Impact. Dynamic. Control.
